CEO MOM Diary: How to Survive & Thrive The Summer – Part 2

Howdy all!  Wanted to check in with you on how my summer was moving along.  If you remember, I posted about my plan to Survive & Thrive The Summer & my default calendar

As a reminder, this is my first summer to have both boys home.  It is part of me putting my money where my mouth is – to start living my ideal life today, not someday.

now or never

So we are half way through the summer and I wanted to share with you how it has been going.

What have I done?

I’ve spent a lot of time with the kids.  At least 2, 2-1/2 days a week not working.

We have spent time at home, at museums, bowling, library, the pool, taken 2 family trips, entertained guests and gone to camps.

Let me tell you, there have been some challenges. What have they been?

Things don’t always go as planned.  Like planning separate camps for both children, so I could have a little time for myself.  My quiet week went by the wayside as C felt the need to fill the space of 2 kids!

C & Me

C & I at the 4th of July Fireworks celebration. He thought I looked better with flags in my hair.

Oh Sure, it’s easy for you!

No, it isn’t. But this is really important to me.   I’m a planner, I like the plan and sometimes I have a VERY hard time when the plan changes again, and again and again.  And, I find that when I’m tired, it’s harder for me to be flexible and stay in the flow.  When it was C & I, I was exhausted, so when plans didn’t go as planned – I’ll admit it – I struggled. I was snippy.  I’m not proud – but just keeping it real.

And, as my lovely VA will vouch, I’m not meeting all the deadlines I set for myself.  In fact, I’m writing this post 2 days late.  Which by the way means some other things are late, but I still work on getting them complete.

But Wait!  What About My Business?  Won’t it Die?

Has my business suffered?  Not really.  Because of the marketing I did before the summer, I am still bringing on new clients.  And because of the planning financially in my business, I have enough to profitably run my business past summer.  Why is that important?  Because I’m not marketing as heavily right now.

OK, but will you have business when summer is over?

That’s the plan.  And I’m busy working on the plan.  My marketing hasn’t gone by the wayside.  In fact, when the schedule goes to pot – like we all know it can, the 2 things I must do, serve my clients and market my business – everything else can wait.

So know, I’m already planning to speak engagements, and amazing “Blast of Cash Master Series”, blog posts, podcasts and I’m even participating in PJ Van Hull’s Listapalooza.

And the reason I have made this summer work is because I have intentionally created it.

What reality are your creating?  Leave me a comment!
